Residents of several villages in the communes of Melloussa and Jouamaa, in the Fahs-Anjra Province, continue to report recurring disruptions in access to drinking water, citing repeated supply cuts, weak water pressure and delays in the commissioning of completed water infrastructure projects. The situation has prompted growing calls for urgent intervention by the Regional Multi-Services Company of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (SRM-TTA).
According to information received by the newspaper, the villages of Dar Hamrane Es-Soufla, Dar Hamrane El Oulia, Al Borj, Blabich and Aarib Loualich have been facing water supply problems for several years. Water reaches homes only for limited periods, while lengthy interruptions become more frequent during the summer, when temperatures rise and water demand increases.
Several residents explained that the low water pressure particularly affects homes located in elevated areas, forcing many families to store water in tanks and plastic containers or transport it using water tankers and tractors to meet their daily needs.
A similar situation is being experienced in the village of Marj Loua Es-Soufla, in the commune of Jouamaa, where a public fountain has remained out of service for more than a year despite construction work having been completed. Available information indicates that local authorities and the provincial administration followed the project throughout its implementation, but the facility has not yet become operational because it has not been connected to the drinking water network and no water meter has been installed.
The newspaper also learned that a local elected representative attempted to meet officials at the provincial branch of the Regional Multi-Services Company to present residents’ concerns, but, according to the available information, the meeting did not take place.
Residents are calling on the company to quickly address the recurring supply interruptions, improve water pressure, complete the technical and administrative procedures required to activate the public fountain, and strengthen communication with local communities by providing clear explanations regarding the delays affecting these projects.
